In literature, the literary element conflict is an inherent incompatibility between the objectives of two or more characters or forces. Conflict creates tension and interest in a story by adding doubt as to the outcome. A narrative is not limited to a single conflict. While conflicts may not always resolve in narrative, the resolution of a conflict creates closure, which may or may not occur at a story’s end.

In Liberation Tales, our heroes experience conflict on many levels. But the most dangerous conflict comes from the Alliance. The Alliance is a corporate supergovernment in the FIREFLY franchise, a powerful authoritarian government and law-enforcement organization that controls the majority of territory within the known universe.

Some of the main sources of Conflict come from the government. These include The Alliance, Bounty Hunters, The Institute, The Academy, Area 54, and Level 7. Conflict also comes from Big Bads, who pull the strings of various other antagonists within the story.
